SDFF33 Red Carpet Preview

OK, alright, everyone, the time has come to make some decisions on what movies you're going to see at the Starz Denver Film Festival. I've already made my preliminary choices, but don't let that sway you (unless you want to be like me (awesome)).

Of course, I plan to be at all the red carpet events, taking portroids and seeing some amazing films. Let's go into those now:

November 3, 2010: Rabbit Hole - based on the play about a couple whose life is turned upside down by the tragic death of their young son. The film stars Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart (in attendance) and directed by John Cameron Mitchell (also in attendance). Some additional cast with portroid connections:

Dianne Wiest

Giancarlo Esposito

November 4, 2010: Grand opening of the new facilities for Denver FilmCenter on Colfax, screenings of Casino Jack and Morning, both sold out (sorry). I was surprised to hear of the tragic death of Casino Jack director George Hickenlooper this week and my heart and thoughts go out to his family. Casino Jack is the story of Jack Abramoff and stars Kevin Spacey. The night is shared by the film Morning by director Leland Orser and stars Jeanne Tripplehorn and Elliot Gould (in attendance).

Portroid connections for these two films:
George Hickenlooper (Casino Jack)

Jason Ritter (Morning)

November 5, 2010: 127 Hours - Director Danny Boyle's (in attendance) film about the true life story of Aron Ralston (also in attendance), the outdoorsman who got trapped under a boulder and was forced to amputate his own arm to escape. The film stars James Franco.

Portroid connection:
Amber Tamblyn
November 13, 2010: Black Swan - Darren Aronofsky's film about a ballet company putting on a production of Swan Lake focusing on the duality of the black and white swan. Starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis.

I've had the chance to watch a number of films screening at the festival. Reviews forthcoming.

See you there!!
Rick
